The Air-O-Lator Commercial Aerator provides powerful aeration and mixing without spray drift, ideal for wastewater, irrigation, and reclaimed water ponds. Compact, flexible, and durable, it features corrosion-resistant construction, a safe unsinkable float, and a high-spec control box.
The Air-O-Lator Commercial Aerator: Heavy-Duty Mixing and Aeration Without Spray Drift
When you think of aeration, you might imagine fountains spraying water high into the air — but not every pond needs that kind of striking visual effect. A lot of the time, you don’t want any spray at all.
And that’s where the Air-O-Lator Commercial aeration system really shines. Originally designed for high-load wastewater ponds, it’s become popular in irrigation ponds, reclaimed water systems, and golf course water features where spray drift is a real concern.
Why No-Spray Aeration Matters
If you’re using reclaimed or treated water, spray drift isn’t just inconvenient — it’s a safety concern. You don’t want potentially pathogenic water spraying across your golf course or an agricultural area.
The Air-O-Lator Commercial aerator neatly solves this problem by aerating water without producing spray drift, keeping your site safe and compliant.
Compact Power and Flexibility
One of the biggest advantages of the Air-O-Lator Commercial Aerator is how compact and lightweight it is. You can easily replace large, power-hungry aerators from the 80s and 90s with these units. They’re available in two, three, and five horsepower. You can have the same amount of horsepower or kilowatts in a pond, but spread out between multiple units — and that means you can turn multiple units on or off.
This gives you a lot of flexibility: you can run all of them, just a few, or even cycle them on and off depending on your aeration needs and power availability day to day. These are powerful units, too — the 2-horsepower unit moves around 4600 litres per minute, and the 5-horsepower unit moves around 8500 litres per minute.
This is an enormous amount of movement, and this flexible, compact power is one of the reasons these units are so effective.
Aeration and Mixing
In wastewater ponds, abattoir ponds, and really any site with a high organic load, oxygen on its own isn’t enough. The oxygen needs to reach the right parts of the pond, and that means mixing.
The Air-O-Lator’s not just an aeration tool: it’s also an excellent mixer. It gets that oxygen actually moving around the pond. Really fast, high-flowing, well-oxygenated water goes straight down and moves the water around.
It pulls oxygen-rich water deep into the pond, circulating it through every layer in a process called destratification. This constant mixing provides better conditions for aerobic bacteria — the “good” bacteria your water system needs — and helps it break down organic matter better.
Built for Durability
Each unit is built from high-quality steel for long-term resistance to corrosion and wear. The propeller is precision-engineered and protected against debris by a steel cage; the motor mount is made of stainless steel, and the motor itself is a 316-grade stainless steel Franklin Electric motor — a world-renowned motor manufacturer.
This is a machine that’s built for the long haul. One of the key things about these motors is that they aren’t oil-filled: you don’t need to worry about oil or seal changes. A lot of other aeration equipment uses oil-filled motors that need changing — so there’s more ongoing maintenance. With the Air-O-Lator Commercial, there are no recurring oil kits, no labour costs for maintenance, and no risk of oil contamination. Some of these kits cost upwards of several hundred dollars to more than $1,000 to get the equipment, parts, and labour.
Some cheaper systems may look cost-effective up-front, but they often prove more expensive in maintenance over their lifetime. The Air-O-Lator Commercial avoids that thanks to its high-quality, durable construction.
Safe, Stable, and Unsinkable
The float on this system is designed for strength and stability — it’s rigid and square in shape for increased stability in the water. It’s not hollow — it’s filled with a polystyrene foam that makes it essentially unsinkable.
It’s UV-stable for long-term outdoor use, includes four tether points for secure anchoring, and a recessed channel lets the power cable exit cleanly without any snagging. If your pond has heavy debris, the float also has anchor points for an optional aftermarket trash guard to prevent large items like plastic bags or branches from being drawn into the propeller.
Easy Electrical Setup
Submersible-rated drop cables connect each unit to the control box. The cables run along the bottom of the pond and up the bank. It’s got a quick-disconnect plug that’s watertight even when hand-tightened so that you won’t need any special tools.
Inside the connector housing, all electrical joints are sealed with a removable potting compound to keep the system watertight, while still allowing an electrician to service it safely when necessary.
The “Rolls-Royce” of Control Boxes
We like to call the Air-O-Lator’s control box the Rolls-Royce of control boxes. This is a high-spec, fully protected system designed to safeguard your investment for the long term. Each box has:
– Over and under-voltage protection
– Surge and overload protection
– Digital motor controls
– Timer with automatic on/off function
– Hand/auto/manual switch
– Lockable isolator and reset lights
Everything is clearly laid out with wiring diagrams for easy installation and troubleshooting. You get a special key to unlock the box, then inside the box, there’s a wiring diagram that’s helpful for the electrician installing it — but also further down the line in case you have any issues with your power supply. It’s built to last, easy to maintain, and gives you total peace of mind.
Why It’s Great
The Air-O-Lator is an outstanding choice for many applications, including wastewater and irrigation ponds. It delivers powerful aeration and mixing performance, uses less energy than traditional systems, and offers exceptional reliability with minimal maintenance.
When you want to upgrade old, inefficient aerators or want an aeration system that’s safe, efficient, and designed to last, it’s hard to beat this system.

"Since WQS installed the aerator, we've not had a single algae problem. In our smaller ponds that are too small for aerators we used Biostim pellets on their own and have noticed a huge reduction in algae.”
Andy Hart
“We had a nutrient-rich stormwater lake that was having continuous problems with algae. We were previously treating the nutrients with a liquid solution that would just end up getting flushed away with the outgoing water. Scott recommended we switch to Biostim pellets which were exactly what we needed.”
Giles Pickard
“Visiting ducks and our pet geese were continuously fouling the dam. WQS recommended a number of systems to improve the water quality. We are very happy with our final choice, the windmill aeration system. This combined with the Biostim pellets and liquid are cleaning up the dirty dam. Everything WQS said would happen has happened!”
Greg Lewis
“We had an urgent problem—our old irrigation system had blockages from weeds. Our dam was also riddled with black sludge. Scott recommended both aeration and biologicals and within six weeks the dam became so clear I could see to the bottom of it for the first time in years! I was chuffed that we could fix the issue without the use of chemicals.”
