Algae Lift is a hydrogen peroxide based, eco-friendly alternative to harsh algaecides. It lifts filamentous algae from pond surfaces, exposing it to predators, bacteria, and natural degradation. Offering fast, cosmetic results without chemical overload, Algae Lift complements long-term solutions like aeration and biological treatments for healthier, clearer water and sustainable algae control.
Algae Lift: An Environmentally Friendly Way to Tackle Algae
Algae — especially filamentous algae — can be pretty unsightly in your pond. If you’ve ever dealt with it, you know how quickly it becomes a major eyesore. It clings to plants, floats to the surface, and makes your dam or pond look awful.
Many people go right for harsh chemical treatments, but you don’t want to go bombing your pond with chemicals all the time. So we want to talk to you about Algae Lift, a more environmentally friendly way to tackle algae.
The Problem with Chemical-Heavy Algae Treatment
One of the biggest problems with chemical-heavy algae treatments is that you get stuck in a cycle of harsh treatments. You introduce harsh chemicals and keep relying on that constant cycle — you bomb it, and then algae grows back, and the cycle keeps continuing.
This isn’t good for your pond, and it’s definitely not good for your budget. These harsh algaecides are short-term solutions, so we don’t recommend them. We prefer a more natural approach, using aeration and biological stimulants to help degrade the nutrients algae use to grow.
It’s our preferred method and it’s very effective — but sometimes you really do need a bit of a quick fix. When you want an alternative to harsh chemical treatments, we recommend a product called Algae Lift.
What is Algae Lift?
Algae Lift isn’t an algaecide; it doesn’t directly kill algae. It lifts it up instead. Filamentous algae is the stuff that you can pick up, touch, grab, and feel. It forms long, stringy mats. It normally starts on the bottom of the pond, and it grows both on and off substances — it’ll stick to plants and look very unsightly.
Algae Lift is a hydrogen peroxide-based treatment. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into hydrogen, oxygen, and water. When you put it into the water, it dislodges the algae from its substrates and causes it to lift up from the bottom. Once it’s up from the bottom, it’s much more susceptible to natural attack from predation or natural bacterial processes that digest and remove it completely.
Algae Lift works in three ways:
– Predation: Algae is more exposed to insects and other grazers that eat it
– Bacterial breakdown: Existing bacteria and microorganisms can digest it
– Environmental exposure: Exposure to the elements can speed up degradation
A Cleaner Surface — Fast
Algae Lift is a topical treatment: you’re not treating the whole dam or dumping heaps of treatment into the water. It offers fast cosmetic improvement without masses of harsh chemicals. It will make a bit of a mess when you first use it, but by the time you come back the next day, it’s generally gone.
You get clearer water and a healthier pond — without ongoing, heavy chemical treatments.
The Best of Both Worlds
Algae Lift gives you rapid improvement for those times you need a quicker fix and don’t want to resort to harsh chemicals. It’s a smart tool that delivers fast results without compromising water quality.
But in the long term, you want a quality aeration system designed for your setup. If you’re interested in learning more about the benefits of aeration and what it can do for your water, contact us. We can help assess your water body and design a water treatment plan that works for you.
"Since WQS installed the aerator, we've not had a single algae problem. In our smaller ponds that are too small for aerators we used Biostim pellets on their own and have noticed a huge reduction in algae.”
Andy Hart
“We had a nutrient-rich stormwater lake that was having continuous problems with algae. We were previously treating the nutrients with a liquid solution that would just end up getting flushed away with the outgoing water. Scott recommended we switch to Biostim pellets which were exactly what we needed.”
Giles Pickard
“Visiting ducks and our pet geese were continuously fouling the dam. WQS recommended a number of systems to improve the water quality. We are very happy with our final choice, the windmill aeration system. This combined with the Biostim pellets and liquid are cleaning up the dirty dam. Everything WQS said would happen has happened!”
Greg Lewis
“We had an urgent problem—our old irrigation system had blockages from weeds. Our dam was also riddled with black sludge. Scott recommended both aeration and biologicals and within six weeks the dam became so clear I could see to the bottom of it for the first time in years! I was chuffed that we could fix the issue without the use of chemicals.”
