Biostim Accelerator enhances herbicide and algaecide performance by breaking down protective slime layers and accelerating decay of dead weeds and algae. Containing bacteria, enzymes, fungi, and stimulants, it improves chemical penetration, reduces nutrient recycling, and lengthens treatment intervals — making weed and algae control more effective and less reliant on chemicals.
How Biostim Accelerator Improves the Effectiveness of Algaecides and Herbicides
When you’re dealing with algae or aquatic weeds, it’s a never-ending cycle: treat the water, kill what’s growing, and watch it all come back, only to start the cycle again… and again. When weeds and algae die, they release nutrients right back into the system, creating the perfect conditions for new growth!
So how do you break this cycle? Biostim Accelerator is a great choice. It’s the only Biostim treatment designed to support chemical treatments like algaecides and herbicides, so I want to talk to you about it and why it’s worth using.
Biostim Accelerator: What It Is & Why It’s Different
Biostim Accelerator is different from other Biostim products like Biostim Liquid, Powder, Tablets or Pellets. These products degrade sludge and organic material in the water. Biostim Accelerator doesn’t do that — it’s got a totally different purpose.
It’s made up of bacterial cultures, enzymes, fungi and stimulants. So what does it do? Two things:
- It helps chemicals penetrate protective slime layers
- It helps clean up decaying material by degrading organic matter
It achieves this by stimulating the activity of bacterial populations that break down the slime layer that forms on plants and algae, and by aiding in the degradation of decaying matter.
Cleaning Up Protective Slime Layers
When you use an algaecide or a herbicide, it’s got a battle to get in and break past the protective slime layer that’s on the weed or algae. Filamentous algae can develop something called an aconite, a protective layer that’s very difficult to penetrate with an algaecide — so you have to use more of it.
Biostim Accelerator allows natural processes to degrade that layer and make it more susceptible to the chemicals. This is great because it reduces the amount of chemical treatments you need and extends the time period between the treatment and the algae growing back.
Biostim Accelerator allows:
– Improves chemical penetration
– Less chemicals needed
– Faster results
Cleaning Up Decaying Material
When an algaecide or herbicide kills a plant, all that dead biomass has to go somewhere. So where does it go? It sinks back down to the bottom of the dam again, where it becomes food for the next generation of algae.
Biostim Accelerator is a biocatalyst full of bacterial cultures, enzymes, fungi, and stimulants that’s designed to encourage naturally occurring bacteria to grow and break down organic content. It won’t kill stuff on its own; that’s not what it’s for. It degrades things already dead or dying and speeds up the process.
When you use Biostim Accelerator, it:
– Rapidly breaks down dead material
– Encourages natural processes that breakdown nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen to prevent them from reentering the water column
– Gives longer times between treatments
– Reduces your reliance on chemical treatments
When Should You Use Biostim Accelerator?
Biostim Accelerator works well on its own, but where it shines is as a supplement for herbicides and algaecides. You should use it when:
– You’re applying herbicides/algaecides
– You have a lot of leaf litter or naturally dying vegetation
– You want less reliance on chemical treatments
– You’re dealing with tough algae that’s hard to treat
It helps chemicals work better, decay happens faster, and makes nutrients unavailable to fuel future algae growth.

"Since WQS installed the aerator, we've not had a single algae problem. In our smaller ponds that are too small for aerators we used Biostim pellets on their own and have noticed a huge reduction in algae.”
Andy Hart
“We had a nutrient-rich stormwater lake that was having continuous problems with algae. We were previously treating the nutrients with a liquid solution that would just end up getting flushed away with the outgoing water. Scott recommended we switch to Biostim pellets which were exactly what we needed.”
Giles Pickard
“Visiting ducks and our pet geese were continuously fouling the dam. WQS recommended a number of systems to improve the water quality. We are very happy with our final choice, the windmill aeration system. This combined with the Biostim pellets and liquid are cleaning up the dirty dam. Everything WQS said would happen has happened!”
Greg Lewis
“We had an urgent problem—our old irrigation system had blockages from weeds. Our dam was also riddled with black sludge. Scott recommended both aeration and biologicals and within six weeks the dam became so clear I could see to the bottom of it for the first time in years! I was chuffed that we could fix the issue without the use of chemicals.”
