The Air-O-Lator Carnival Aerating Fountain

Summary

The Air-O-Lator Carnival is an efficient, decorative aerating fountain ideal for dams under 5 metres deep. It oxygenates water, supports beneficial bacteria, and destratifies while offering aesthetic appeal. With flexible power options, solar compatibility, and strong water movement, it’s a practical, visually striking solution for maintaining healthy, attractive water bodies.

The Air-O-Lator Carnival Aerating Fountain

Shallow dams have specific needs when it comes to water management, especially when you want to balance practical benefits with decoration. We recently did some work for a client using the Air-O-Lator Carnival and want to explain why it’s a fantastic aerator for shallower depths.

The Air-O-Lator Carnival: A Fantastic Choice

The Air-O-Lator Carnival Aerating Fountain is a fantastic aerator for depths under 5 metres. For anything deeper than 5 metres, you can still use one — but you’d want to think about supplementing it with a subsurface system in combination with the Carnival.

Our client’s dam was about 2.5 metres deep, so the Carnival is ideal. This type of aerator is great for this sort of dam because it moves a hell of a lot of water and aerates the water well — but it has a really nice decorative aspect to it. So you’re getting the benefit of aeration and decoration.

Its efficient oxygenation really helps support healthier water conditions and breakdown of organic materials by encouraging beneficial aerobic bacteria to thrive, helping the destratification of the dam. And since it’s got a nice, visible fountain effect, it’s got the wow factor, too. That’s why it’s popular in residential estates, golf courses, or public spaces — it does the job and looks good doing it.

What’s in the Box

So what do you get in the kit? Let’s break it down:

– The Carnival motor assembly and nozzle with internal propeller

– Base

– Control box

In our client’s setup, we possibly wanted to connect it to lights later on. So we used an electrical quick disconnect attached to very thick submersible cables. To run the lights, we’d normally have a transformer that sits in the base with a cable running into the motor. For our client, we didn’t have the lights ready to go — but since the client wanted lights on a later date, we got it set up for lights from the beginning. It’s a good idea to do that if you want to add them in later.

The control box should be fitted by an electrician, and it’s got the motor protection, timers, and different switches to make sure everything is well protected from a motor point of view.

Power Options and Versatility

The Air-O-Lator Carnival is a good choice because it’s flexible and accommodates a wide range of site needs. You get:

– Single-phase or three-phase power options

– A variety of different-sized motors from one horsepower up to five horsepower

– Three solar options are available

The solar options mean you can run it off the sun, or some other solar hybrid motors for a combination of sunlight and mains power. This is great because when the sun goes down, you can run it off mains if you want to run it 24/7. So these are really great aerators from an options and flexibility point of view.

A True Aerating Fountain

Where you want something aesthetic and functional, the Carnival is a true aerating fountain. The Air-O-Lator Carnival runs off a propeller, which spins around like crazy and moves a hell of a lot of water. They’re different from your typical decorative fountains; if you’re looking at sort of three-tier fountains and all those more fancy sort of ones, they’re not truly aerating fountains.

The true aerating fountains will throw the water up like an upside-down cone because they’re running off a propeller. So the Air-O-Lator Carnival is great for ornamental dams because they look fantastic — but still provide exceptional aeration with all its water quality benefits. You can enjoy aesthetics and function at the same time.

"Since WQS installed the aerator, we've not had a single algae problem. In our smaller ponds that are too small for aerators we used Biostim pellets on their own and have noticed a huge reduction in algae.”

“We had a nutrient-rich stormwater lake that was having continuous problems with algae. We were previously treating the nutrients with a liquid solution that would just end up getting flushed away with the outgoing water. Scott recommended we switch to Biostim pellets which were exactly what we needed.”

“Visiting ducks and our pet geese were continuously fouling the dam. WQS recommended a number of systems to improve the water quality. We are very happy with our final choice, the windmill aeration system. This combined with the Biostim pellets and liquid are cleaning up the dirty dam. Everything WQS said would happen has happened!”

“We had an urgent problem—our old irrigation system had blockages from weeds. Our dam was also riddled with black sludge. Scott recommended both aeration and biologicals and within six weeks the dam became so clear I could see to the bottom of it for the first time in years! I was chuffed that we could fix the issue without the use of chemicals.”
